Talcum Powder Lawsuits
Anastopoulo Law Firm is filing talcum powder lawsuits for victims who developed ovarian cancer after using these products. You may qualify to join ongoing multidistrict litigation (MDL). MDL 2738, “Johnson & Johnson Talcum Powder Products Marketing, Sales Practices, and Products Liability Litigation,” is currently underway in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey as of August 2021.
Our team offers free consultations for women who required cancer treatment after using baby powder or other talcum powder products for feminine hygiene uses. We may be able to sue on your behalf and seek damages based on your losses.
Holding Johnson & Johnson Responsible for Your Cancer and Related Expenses
Johnson & Johnson is the primary defendant in the talcum powder MDL. The company manufactured the most popular talcum powder products during the 1970s, 1980s, and later. Many women used their Johnson’s Baby Powder, Shower to Shower, and other talc-based products for feminine hygiene uses.
If we can link your ovarian cancer diagnosis to your use of these products, you may be able to recover compensation for damages that include:
- Cancer treatment and care
- Future medical care needs
- Long-term and hospice care, as necessary
- Lost income
- Diminished earning capacity
- Pain and suffering
- Other intangible losses
If your family member died from cancer before you learned about these lawsuits, you may be able to take legal action in a wrongful death case. You can still participate in the MDL and seek damages for your family’s:
- Medical bills
- Funeral and burial costs
- Income losses
- Loss of services
- Non-economic damages suffered by survivors
Already, some courts awarded punitive damages in talcum powder cases. If your case goes to trial or there is a settlement, you may be able to recover these damages as well. The Anastopoulo Law Firm team pursues punitive damages for our clients when appropriate. We can discuss this more during your complimentary consultation.

Claimants Allege Johnson & Johnson Knew About the Dangers of Talcum Powder for Decades
According to the lawsuits filed against Johnson & Johnson, the plaintiffs in these cases believe the company knew it was manufacturing and marketing a dangerous product for decades before the first lawsuits made it to court. Some allege the company knew that Johnson’s Baby Powder, Shower to Shower, and other products were being used for feminine hygiene purposes, but the company never issued a warning. For many, this is the worst part of the accusations.
There is a wealth of expert evidence gathered by plaintiffs in these cases, and the judge has allowed it despite Johnson & Johnson’s objections. In addition, scientific studies have linked the use of these products to ovarian cancer for 40+ years. This includes:
A 1982 Study in Cancer
Researchers conducted an epidemiologic study on talcum powder use. They found a significant increase in ovarian cancer risk for women who used these products on their underwear, perineum, or sanitary napkins.
A 1988 Study in the American Journal of Epidemiology
A look at women diagnosed with ovarian cancer found that 52 percent of them regularly used talcum powder for feminine hygiene uses.
A 2000 Study in Epidemiology
Researchers found a significant increase in the risk of ovarian cancer for women who habitually used talcum powder on their genitals in this study of more than 2,000 participants.

What Is the Timeline for the Talcum Powder MDL?
The talcum powder MDL began in 2016 and is still in the pretrial motions and discovery stage. According to an August 2021 report from the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation, MDL 2738 is the second-largest multidistrict litigation currently in progress, with around 35,000 lawsuits included.
As of early 2021, they were still in the process of identifying the plaintiffs for bellwether trials and conducting discovery. The court has not yet set a date for the first bellwether trials. This means there is still time for additional plaintiffs to file suit and join the MDL.
If you used talcum powder and had or now have ovarian cancer, our team is here to talk to you about your legal options. We also want to hear from you if you developed mesothelioma or another asbestos-related cancer after regular talcum powder use.
